Gagan is a Royalist: Koirala

The Himilayan Times
Biratnagar, August 16

Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala today reportedly accused Gagan Thapa former general secretary of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), and NC leader Narhari Acharya of being Royalists.
Koirala, who came here from Pokhara after disagreement between two factions of the NSU at the 10 Convention, seemed rather aggressive, according to NC activists who met him in the morning.
“Gagan Thapa’s activities were suspicious from the beginning. I know that he (Thapa) is a Royalist,” district level party leaders said quoting Koirala, after the meeting.
Meanwhile, Koirala this morning ruled out possibility of a republican set up in the country at present.
Talking to party workers in Biratnagar he said: "Republic is just a matter of bargaining but its impossible in Nepal. Republic means throwing away of the monarchy but we cannot go against the King. The present situation of the nation is not favourable for the republican set up."
He said there is fear of anarchy and foreign intervention in a republic. Koirala came to his hometown last night without any prior notice. He is scheduled to return to Kathmandu tomorrow evening.
